Hangzhou Depression Center (HDC), renowned for its research on mental disorders like single depression, bipolar disorder and mood disorders, is comprised of a depression department and an inpatient ward for affective disorders. We are now staffed with a group of physicians and specialists, including 2 experts with a senior technical title of professor, 3 with a title of associate professor, 3 with a PhD degree and 7 with a MS drgree.


We may rival any hospital from worldwide to cure depression with a set of customized clinical plans, including drug-based, psychological and physical therapies. Particularly we are renowned nationwide for our strength in physical therapy, for instance, the introduction of magnetic resonance navigation to accurately locate repeated transcranial magnetic stimulation therapy (rTMS), which is non-invasive and efficient, and has few side effects.

Doctor Tan started his career in 1988 as a physician, teacher and researcher of mental disorders. He has been a guest lecturer for foreign students (taught in English), MS candidates and undergraduates in Zhejiang University, Zhejiang Chinese Medical University and Hangzhou Normal University, and has been the team leader or a member to academic programs like the “neuroimaging signs and significance of hypothalamus in patients with depression”, “a study on serotonin transporter genes and pineal hormone daily rhythm and treatment in depression”, and the “effect of repeated transcranial magnetic stimulation combined with antidepressants on refractory depression and neuroendocrine” etc., which were sponsored by either state or provincial and municipal authorities. Tan also published a number of papers in domestic core journals and SCI magazines, and was the co-author of textbooks, like Consulting Psychology, designated by the Ministry of Health. He is experienced in handling emotional disorders, psychological rescue and sadness management. He once studied at the Institute of Mental Health Beijing University, the Academic Medical Center affiliated with the University of Amsterdam, and the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience.
